Home Sweet Homestead. St. Tammany Homestead was established in 1924 as a savings and loan association owned by its customers. In over 80 years in business, we've weathered the Great Depression, hyper-inflation, double-digit interest rates and the "great savings and loan debacle" of the 1980s, AND -- Hurricane Katrina.   How so? Simply by focusing on home loans and savings accounts with a commitment to personal service. Our customers say doing business with us is easy, some might even say relaxing. Easier To Do Business With. We believe that the mortgage loan process should be a positive, hassle-free experience. Our underwriting guidelines are more flexible than you may find elsewhere because we want to help borrowers who are self-employed or may have some loan approval complications. We also underwrite every loan locally--with full knowledge of the local market economy--and we underwite and serviceall of the loans we make. That means your payments are made here, and your questions about taxes, insurance and other issues are answered here.  There are no automated call centers; call us and talk to a real live human being who is eager to help.
